2016 Sailing World Cup Final – St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria
It is a pleasure to host the Sailing World Cup Final here in Melbourne, the sporting capital of the world.
Held at the St Kilda Sailing Precinct, the Sailing World Cup has been a central feature on Victoria’s world-renowned sporting calendar for the past seven years.
The Victorian Government has long supported the delivery of this event in partnership with Yachting Victoria. This renowned regatta would not be the superb event it is without the commitment and tireless work of all groups involved, including the highly-skilled event officials and volunteers.
Events like the Sailing World Cup have ensured that Victoria remains at the forefront of major sporting events and give Victorians the chance to see world-class action right here on Port Phillip Bay.
With large crowds of visitors and locals alike lining the St Kilda foreshore, the action makes for great viewing from the beach, while a festive atmosphere ensures there’s something for everyone.
More than 48 nations have been represented at this event, which will include Olympic and Paralympic medallists fresh from Rio 2016.
Melbourne is proud to be the southern hemisphere venue of the Sailing World Cup destinations joining Miami (USA), Hyeres (France), Weymouth & Portland (Great Britain) and Qingdao (China) this year.
To all the competitors, best of luck at the Sailing World Cup Final and Sail Melbourne events and enjoy your stay in Melbourne.
