Event Chairman's Welcome

Welcome from Event Chairman, Mark Klemens.

Welcome to all sailors from Australia and from all over the world, in particular our Australian Sailing Team and Squad, all the International superstars of the sport and the Victorian community to the 2016 Sailing World Cup - Final.

We are excited to announce that the St Kilda Sailing Precinct will play host to the Grand Final event of the Sailing World Cup Series. The location truly lends itself to celebrating brilliantly the great sport of sailing for all of Melbourne to truly enjoy.

The Sailing World Cup - Melbourne has cemented itself as a signature event on Melbourne’s major sporting calendar with thousands of Victorians embracing the sport of sailing and celebrating our Aussie Athletes and those from abroad. Our vision to deliver an exceptional competitor experience and broaden the sports appeal has now well and truly come to life.

With more than 900 Athletes from over 40 nations likely to be represented immediately proceeding the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the spectators and sailors alike will be in for an unforgettable experience. The Invited Classes will also highlight up and coming talent and enable those younger sailors to mix it up with the very best in the world, a unique opportunity rarely seen in other sports.

We are committed to delivering the best Sailing World Cup Grand Final event ever and are committed to delivering great viewing opportunities for those on shore and have significant media interest in the event to help showcase the event in Australia and worldwide.

In particular, the week will culminate in the excitement of close to shore medal races for all the Olympic classes and we would love to see huge numbers of spectators come down to the precinct, enjoy the atmosphere and watch these whilst utilising the great bar and restaurant facilities available at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron and St Kilda Sea Baths

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the Victorian sailing community and all partner yacht clubs who have done and will continue to give of their time and expertise to this event and all that is involved in the relocation. A big thank you goes to the continued support of the State Government of Victoria and our partner in the City of Port Phillip as well as the corporate sponsors, suppliers and media partners.

I am so proud to be a part of this event.
